Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Q. What is Academic Urology?
Academic Urology LLC came into existence in 2007 It consists of five professional divisions with twelve locations serving suburban Philadelphia from the Delaware State line to Central Montgomery County. As of this writing we are 31 doctors with multiple Physician Assistants, Nurses, Nurse Practioners, Technologist and support staff. If you are our patient, then your Urology physician is a doctor at one of these divisions.
Academic has been able to partner with area hospitals to bring the latest technology of surgical robotics to the operating room and has fellowship trained experts in laparoscopic robotic radical prostatectomy.
There are plans for research, lithotripsy, an incontinence center, surgicenter and more at a centrally located brand new facility that will open soon.
Q. What is The Prostate Center?
September 2008 Academic Urology LLC created both a pathology lab and a radiation center to speed the diagnosis and treatment of our cancer patients.
We have even integrated new computer software to help reduce treatment conflicts and billing issues with your insurance companies.
Q. What Does the Pathology Lab Do?
Few pathology laboratories have uropathology expertise, which is why Academic Urology developed their own pathology lab. Having a captive lab provides many advantages to the patients and the doctors:
- Patients can be assured that the pathologists reviewing the biopsies have experience and expertise reviewing urological sample. This will aid in the early detection of cancer.
- Compensation of the Pathologist is driven by quality not quantity. Therfore there is no risk of a Pathologist getting “burnt out†by reviewing too many slides a day which could lead to dangerous mistakes.
- Test results can be provided in a timely fashion which minimizes patient anxiety and wait time.
- Doctors have access to the Pathologists who performed the testing so the results can be discussed in person, if necessary.
All of these factors lead to higher patient satisfaction and quality of care.
